In March 1990, World Conference on “ Education for All by 2015 ” discusses about “Meeting Basic Learning Needs” and we pray that a miracle will take place in the education of disabled children and adults. The special education services in Sarawak are very lacking especially in children less than 6 year-old. This “ Learning begins at birth ” early intervention golden period is especially important for those mentally challenged, in which people here are still struggling with. The NGOs, the private EIP centers and daycare nursery centers are providing the services right now to a very small group of population, far beyond the needed.
The Education department provide special school for the blind and deaf, special class in normal school for those having learning difficulty and remedial class until primary 3 for slow learner.
Process of Entry to Special School or Special Class
Step 1 Get Registration forms from Local Education Department / Office or from the school principal
Step 2 Together with photo, birth certificate and BSN Bank Simpanan National Account number send to District Education Office (Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah Kecil PPDK) by parents or by the school principal
Step 3 Send to Divisional Education Office (Pejabat Pelajaran Gabungan PPG) then to State Head Quarter.
Step 4 Approved by Sarawak State Education Department, Unit Pendidikan Khas and inform the then to District Education Office (Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah Kecil PPDK) and lastly inform the school.
Step 5 Those approved for special education are entitled for monthly allowance of RM 25 and bank to BSN account directly.
